Val Tex Neptune online version

Stumbling on London based shoe brand, Miista, and finding some of the coolest shoes we’d ever seen, we knew we just had to feature them in the March 2013 issue of Shoed-In Magazine.

Miista’s newest collection, ELECTROMANCER,  pairs the sweaty energy of industrial raves with hot pink kittens and futuristic influences of the 1962 novel “Necromancer” to create fantasy footwear.

 Launched in 2011, the brand makes their shoes with organic materials and careful research. Already receiving rave reviews on the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection at recent tradeshows, the busy footwear brand has big plans and projects on the way.

S: When was Miista footwear started? How did you go from idea, to first shoe design, to a full line?
Miista: We launched with our Spring/Summer ’11 collection FEMALE WARRIORS. The concept of the line was there from the start, it was always something we wanted to exist on the market, so we did it backwards: full line idea whittled down to individual styles.
 
S: What was the first shoe you designed for Miista?
Miista: The NAIA woven heel and it is still one of our favorites.
 
S: How did you decide on the brand’s name: Miista?
Miista: The name was born from a chat with friends at a local Hackney pub. 
 
S: What were some your inspirations for the Electromancer, Spring/Summer 2013 Collection?
Miista: ELECTROMANCER explores the sweaty energy of an industrial rave, the unexpected joy elicited from a hot pink kitten, the ancient natural structure of geodes, the futuristic fantasy feel of the 1962 science fiction novel Necromancer, the magic encapsulated within a nebula, the intricate neon body of a jellyfish, the yellow orange of the Omega Nebula, the magic of natural forces and the unstructured beauty of the vast unknown. Our inspiration took us on a long, winding journey which began in a sci-fi fantasy world and ended deep below the dirt. In a nutshell: organic materials, all the different ways that light can be played with, and as always with Miista, a balance between the bizarre and the beautiful. 
 
S: Do you have a design muse? Does your background influence your shoe designs?
Miista: There are many but one of our favorites is PJ Harvey, she is a very inspiring woman.
 
S: How would you describe the Miista woman, outside of “headstrong”? Why?
Miista: Irreverent. Independent. And a bit mad.
 
S: How do you stay in tune with your customer’s needs & style?
Miista: We make a point to keep in constant contact with our customers through social media. From Instagram to Twitter, Facebook to Tumblr we are always posting ideas and waiting for their response in order to gauge where we should go next and what they’re looking for.
 
S: There is quite a bit of attitude behind the Miista footwear designs. Is this a reflection of your personality?
Miista: Every Miista has her fair share of tude.
 
S: Do you have a process you use for pairing the unusual, opposing, style elements that make Miista footwear?
Miista: It all starts with the way we research at the beginning of the creative process. We research opposites, and unusual elements, and we work to the guide of ”Measured Madness”.
 
S: The “Neptune” design is very distinct. How did you develop the intricate design for this style?
Miista: The actual structure of Val Neptune came about from research into geodes and the passing of natural light through the translucence of the minerals to create interesting shapes and colours and hues. If you look closely at the pattern you can see it’s porous-like frame work. That was developed by taking several hi resolution geode images, and being my typically obsessive self, working them to the minutia! I stepped back from the screen and there was Neptune.
 
The colourway itself? Well let’s just say it was a happy accident!! 
 
S: How do you choose name for each style?
Miista: There is not a lot of thought behind this. We tend to choose the first name of a girl that comes to mind when looking at the sketch.
 
S: What is a day like in the world of the design studio for Miista footwear?
Miista: BUSY.
 
S: Do you have plans on doing any collaborating with any other brands in the future?
Miista: We have a ton of new projects in the pipeline, keep your eye on us to find out just what!
 
S: Any other interesting details you would like to share or include?
Miista: Our newest collection MIDNIGHT WATERS for AW13 has gotten an incredible response at the tradeshows we’ve shown at in the past two weeks. It is a dark and moody collection, with a focus on melancholy beauty and the changes that occur as the seasons shit from Autumn to the cold, pale landscape of Winter. Andre 3000 and Queen Bey are set to cover Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” hit, for the upcoming film the Great Gatsby. The movie is set to be released in May with Andre and Beyonce’s song being one of the major singles.

Side Note: I wonder if Jay-Z producing the soundtrack has anything to do with Beyonce being apart if this. If so.. who cares. THe soundtrack should be awesome. This will be Andre 3000 and Beyonce’s second time doing a song together. The first was Beyonce’s 2011 hit “Party”.

… don’t you miss the days of awesome soundtracks. I do.

After having been devastated by earthquake in 2010, Haiti is still in need of humanitarian aid and funds. TOMS Shoes has been one of the companies working to provide such assistance by giving shoes to all children of the 10 departments of Haiti and now by commissioning Haitian artists to make hand-painted murals on a special edition of TOMS Classics.

That a girl! porsha stewart divorceLast week Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Stewart got blind sighted as her husband Kordell Stewart filed for divorce behind her back. When Porsha was said to believe that the couple was going to work on their problems. The soon to be not married couple had been married for a little under two years. Kordell said the union was “irretrievably broken” and that he was not going to give her a dime because she is an “able bodied person able to [take care of herself]”.

Porsha give him two snaps just recently and counterflied for divorce. She is asking the court to make him pay her alimony and additional relief. Due to the fact that she sold her business off and has not worked for two years. In order to take care of Kordell’s son Syre. She says that this has set her back in the financial area significantly.

Dang. Here’s some additional news… When Kordell flied for divorce from Porsha, he used her maiden name “Porsha Williams”. Wow.. it’s really over.

cory monteith goes to rehab

 

If you are a Gleek (Glee Fan) like myself. This story will truly break your heart. Cory Monteith, 30, who plays the character “Finn” on Glee has entered rehab for the second time for substance abuse. His first trip to rehab was when he was at age 19. He went voluntarily and ask that everyone “respect [his] privacy as [he] takes the necessary steps to recovery.”

Cory has been open about is past abuse saying he would do “anything and everything, as much as possible”, starting at age 13 when his parents divorced. The Glee family supports his rehab decision and wishes him well.

Girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele who plays “Rachel” released the statement “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

This time the two stars made a video lip syncing to Justin Bieber’s ex and Spring Breakers co-star Selena Gomez’s “Love You Like A Love Song”. Beyonce wants to take over the entire world in 2013, and it shows very much. The multi-talented artist has teamed up with H&M for a summer collection called “Beyonce as Mrs.Carter for H&M”. She really is going to wear this Mrs. Carter thing to the ground though but I’m not mad. The collection will include everything down to tie-dye swimsuits and will reflect Beyonce’s style.

“It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial. I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind.”

Anybody have predictions on how this collection will work out?
